ADVENTURE ABOVE & BELOW THE YUCATAN

The following itinerary is designed to capture the essence of the Yucatan Peninsula. You will visit a variety of incredible natural and historical sites, mixing well-known landmarks with hidden gems, all the while focusing on travel by bicycle and responsible tourism.

Our regional expertise will allow you to experience local flavors in Maya communities, coastal villages as yet undisturbed by tourism and the magnificent splendour of Chichen Itza and Tulum. You will travel led by an expert guide and have a back-up vehicle at all times.

Itinerary :

Day 1
Arrival
  • Pick-up at Cancun Airport and
    transfer to Valladolid. (travel time 1h45)

  • Meet your guide and get a briefing on the week ahead.

  • Overnight at Casa Quetzal in Valladolid

Day 2
Archeological site of Cobá
  • Visit the archeolofical site of Coba by bike.

  • Cycle to Ek Balam archaeological site and adjacent cenote. Impressive ruins in an unspoilt setting followed by swim in cenote to cool off.

  • Enjoy lunch before the cycle back.

  • After a rest enjoy an evening stroll in the charming town of Valladolid.

  • Overnight at Casa Quetzal in Valladolid

  • Total distance on bike 50km.

Day 3
Mayan Wonders & Traditions
  • Transfer by vehicle to Chichen Itza to arrive at opening time, as it gets very busy.

  • After a full tour of this phenomenal site, we cycle to the community of Yaxunah.

  • Swim in the wonderful cenote

  • Lunch and then bike around the village learning about different aspects of modern Mayan culture.

  • Before returning to Valladolid explore the ruins of Yaxunah, a virtually unknown site that was a rival of Chichen Itza.

  • Overnight Casa Quetzal in Valladolid

  • ​Total distance on bike 30km (can extend to 55km).

Day 4
Las Coloradas
  • Full day cycling.

  • Passs by many small villages on quiet roads
    travelling north through the typical landscape of Yucatan. There are many picturesque plazas and churches to photograph along the way.

  • Stop in Espita for lunch,

  • Swim the refreshing waters of the Kikil cenote and adjacent ruined monastery.

  • Transfer (or continue biking!) to Las Coloradas, a tiny village on the Gulf of Mexico famous for it's pink lagoons and salt production.

  • Overnight Hotel Piñas Coloradas

  • Total ​distance on bike 80km

Day 5
Río Lagartos and the pink flamingos
  • Boat tour of the excepcional Ría Lagartos nature reserve - crocodiles, birds and pinkflamingo watching

  • After lunch, we cycle a coastal trail between the Gulf of Mexico and a series of lagoons

  • Visit of the fishing village of El Cuyo. 

  • Beach spot you might just fall in love with.

  • Overnight in Lun Arena Beach Hotel

  • ​Total distance on bike 30km.

Day 6 
Beach time and Mayan family experience
  • Morning swim and relax by the sea. 

  • Choose to spend the day by the beach and
    transfer by vehicle in the late afternoon, or hop
    on the bike after brunch to cycle a distance of
    your choice (maximum distance 100km).

  • Option of cenote stop if there is time.

  • Visit Nuevo Durango, a small Mayan community where we will be hosted by the Trinidad family on their jungle farm. 

  • Overnight Nohoch Keej in jungle cabins.

Day 7
Punta Laguna & Tulum ruins
  • Morning spent biking among Mayan communities practicing ecotourism

  • Walk in the nature reserve of Punta Laguna, where you hike jungle paths to look out for
    wild spider monkeys,

  • Canoe, zip-line, Cenote Esmeralda, 

  • Visit the Laguna Chabela, a beautiful family jungle home 

  • After lunch with the Mayan family we transfer to Tulum,

  • Visit of Tulum Ruins 

  • Overnight to Hotel Iberostar

  • Total distance on bike 25km.
